Easter Weekend - Go North!

For our extended Easter weekend we decided to forget what the flowers, leaves, and temperatures are telling us and go skiing!  Now, the only place open with any significant coverage was Sunday River, Maine.  Ordinarily this would mean a trip to Grandpa and Grandma Johnson, but they are on their annual Midwest tour.  Instead we went to an old standby, the Town & Country Inn in Gorham, NH.  It's only 25 minutes from Sunday River, was discounted for the offseason, and has a great pool.

On the way we stopped at Chutters in Littleton, NH.  Chutters is the home of the world's longest candy counter - 112 feet.  They also make wondrous fudge and are very generous with the samples.

There it is - 112 on the nose!

Contrary to the recent warm weather and budding trees, the White Mountains lived up to their name.  They really rise out of nowhere as you drive.  It's quite striking.

As previously mentioned, the T&C has a great pool.  Lauren has progressed tremendously.  A year ago she wouldn't even put her face in the water, now she's chasing diving sticks and coins to the bottom.

Ashley is also very comfortable in the water and recently discovered she could use her float to really relax in the pool.

We've shown the Gorham playground before.  Friday evening was warm enough to play a few rounds of hide-and-seek.

On to Sunday River.  The drive was very easy, the lodge uncrowded, and the conditions - Spring like.

The ground wasn't even moist like it usually is in spring.

There was still enough snow to make a few wintry looking pictures.

That's all an illusion, though.  Lauren couldn't help stomping in some mud.

Lauren also scored a new winter coat for next season - discounted 50%.  Everyone was in such a good mood after skiing that we were able to get several pictures of three girls together and smiling.  Fortunately the bear didn't look too fearsome.

The game room at the T&C had a candy crane game.  Y'know, the ones that usually take your money and the claw brings back nothing - repeatedly.  The T&C though, had a play until you win version for a quarter.  This was definitely the highlight of the kids' weekend - a claw machine that Mom and Dad actually let them play with guaranteed candy.  Sweet!

The claw machine and in-room Easter egg hunt put the girls in such an outstanding mood that Mom captured a picture of three smiling beauties while wearing the Easter bunny hats each made in pre-school.
