Pipiwai Trail

25 minutes past Hana is the lower coastal portion of Haleakala National Park.  The primary activity here is the Pipiwai trail, a 4 mile walk in the woods sporting two very tall waterfalls, dozens of smaller ones, amazing trees, and a bamboo forest.

Makahiku Falls - 200 feet

Fun with bamboo found in the stream during our picnic

Ashley only played drums on my head a few times :)

Looking up in the bamboo forest

The bamboo was so dense that the flash could only penetrate 5-7 feet

Waimoku Falls - 400 feet

Self-portrait of me with my 30 pound hiking intensity enhancer - she didn't want to walk a step.  Given the rocks and roots, it was probably for the best.

After we completed the Pipiwai Trail we took the half mile loop to view the Seven Sacred Pools.  We only waded as the wind was intense and the water cool.
