Haleakala

Today we decided to take a leisurely drive to the top of the island.  Haleakala is a national park and the volcano is over 10,000 feet high.  We were fortunate to have clear skies and to arrive between the early risers and cruise ship tour buses.

Picnic on top of the world - Sarah eats her first sandwich.  We could easily see Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa of the Big Island of Hawaii.

A unique feature of the park is the Silversword.  It was beautiful shimmering in the sunlight.  The gift shop pictures of the plant in bloom were gorgeous.  Fortunately for Sarah they are furry, not thorny.

After descending from the volcano we found a playground for some hide and seek.
